Freedom Bicycles has Closed

Due to business conditions, the bicycle shop will be closed. It has been a very difficult decision and we thank those that supported us. We are referring service work to the Bike Dr. at 740-975-3444. If you have a warranty issue, please contact a shop representing your brand. We will try to fulfill orders on specialty SE BMX bikes by appointment only.

Thank you, Doug

“I love to share the experience of riding and being able to offer a quality bicycle at a reasonable price.” Doug Berling, proud owner of Freedom Bicycles, recalls the beginnings of his bicycle shop, situated at the Village center. The name Freedom Bicycles was born while Doug was on a bike ride with a friend, as he shared his desire to start a bicycle shop that offered quality bicycles that are easier, more comfortable and safer to operate. “I realized what I wanted was to give people the ‘freedom’ to enjoy riding bicycles. For many of us who loved riding bikes as a kid, it was to bring back that enjoyment.”

Having lived in the Alexandria area for 21 years, locating his bike shop locally was an easy decision. “My building is close to the bike path, so it’s a great place for test rides and to use our rentals. The shop is easily accessible from 161, and it is centrally located in relation to other small towns in the area.” Residing nearly 10 miles from the Freedom Bicycle shop, Doug’s passion for electric bicycles (e-bikes) quickly surfaced. “I know it might sound like it defeats the purpose, but when you are pedaling constantly and going uphill, it is almost as fun as going downhill. It sure is a lot of fun with exercise benefits!” Doug often takes advantage of these benefits by riding his e-bike to work.
